Eminent natural monument-Devil's Cave Steinau

Steinau's Devil's Cave is an important natural monument as well as Hesse's oldest accessible show cave. See stalactites, stalagmites and rare columns. Discover another world and let yourself be enchanted by the play of colours, while discrete illuminations impressively emphasize the natural beauty.

Various species of bats use the cave to hibernate. Bechstein's bat, whiskered bat, Daubenton's bat, Natterer's bat, long-eared bat and greater mouse-eared bat have already been detected.

Information for visitors

• The cave is only to be visited as part of a guided tour.
• Beginning of tours during the below opening hours varies according to demand.
• Length of tour approx. 45  minutes (incl. hand out and return of hard hats).
• Number of participants limited to 20 people each tour.

Parking

• There is free, unattended parking below the cave, next to the road. Visitors can take one of two marked forest paths. You will need approx. 8 to 12 minutes to walk the distance from the car park to the cave.
• Visitors with valid disabled parking permit will be allowed to alight from their car directly at the cave. However, please observe the guide's instructions regarding where the car must then be parked.

Sensation Tour

The cave illumination is off. Each visitor brings his own torch which remains the only light to illuminate the interior of the cave. This way visitors can look into shafts, crevices and gabs and illuminate bizarre dripstone formations. When the guide lights the cave with ultraviolet light it makes certain areas shine in various colours.

If the number of 5 visitors cannot be reached, a minimum sum of € 25,00 is to be paid.
